About Dr. Leorah Freeman
Leorah Freeman, MD, PhD, is an Associate Professor of Neurology at Dell Medical School, The University of Texas at Austin, where she directs the Multiple Sclerosis and Neuroimmunology Center. Over two decades of clinical practice, she has cared for patients with multiple sclerosis and its rarer relatives — NMOSD, MOGAD, autoimmune encephalitis — and, increasingly, for patients with dysautonomia, hEDS and small fiber neuropathy.
She is a clinical trialist whose research focuses on the development of new therapeutics for neuroimmune conditions and the validation of novel imaging and digital biomarkers. She is the principal investigator of the MS Implementation Network, a national practice-based research network dedicated to closing the gap between innovation and clinical adoption.
She earned her MD and PhD (in neurosciences) from Université Pierre et Marie Curie in Paris, where she also completed her neurology residency. She trained in MS and neuroimmunology through fellowships at La Pitié-Salpêtrière in Paris and UTHealth in Houston, TX.
She writes The Neuroimmunologist to bring clinical evidence, the emerging immune lens on complex chronic illness, and the practical work of managing these conditions to the patients, families, and clinicians who need it.
